Overall, dry eyes are an imbalance in the eye's tear film. Either there is too little water, or the composition is incorrect. When you have dry eyes, it is typically due to either reduced tear production or increased evaporation of the tear film. Tear fluid consists of 3 things: Oil, water and mucous. Every time we blink, tear fluid is distributed across the cornea. This forms a film on the surface of the eye. The tear film moistens the eye, ensuring that we have clear vision. The tear film protects against dirt and infections and at the same time provides nutrients to the surface of the eye. Dry eyes are therefore related to a negative impact on the eye's tear film.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Until now, treatment for dry eyes has been symptomatic treatment with drops. Unfortunately, this is only a temporary solution to the problem. At Scandinavian Eye Center, we take a completely different approach. We delve into finding the cause of the problem and carry out thorough diagnostics. This way, we can better treat the symptoms. We have the latest equipment to create the most optimal tear film and surface on the eye. In this way, we not only relieve the symptoms, but also treat the cause of dry eyes. There may be several reasons why many people suffer from dry eyes. However, the most common is age, as tear production decreases and the composition of tears changes with age. Other causes of dry eyes include indoor environments, such as air conditioning and computers. When using computers and other screens, people tend to blink less frequently; in other words, they blink fewer times than usual. Dry eyes can also be caused by certain types of medication, such as blood pressure medication, antihistamines and antidepressants. Diabetes, arthritis, connective tissue disorders and vitamin deficiencies can also lead to problems with dry eyes. Women may be particularly susceptible, especially during periods of hormonal change such as the menopause. Whatever the cause, dry eyes are a major problem for those who suffer from them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Many people consult their GP or an ophthalmologist because of irritated, red eyes that sting and\/or itch. Another classic symptom is watery eyes. It may seem paradoxical for a doctor to say you have dry eyes when your eyes are watering. But this can certainly be the case.
